Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia PA
We first visited Lutheran Theological Seminary located in the Germantown Section of Philadelphia in 2013. The owner was concerned that stones were falling from the bell tower of the main church. We photographed things from below and saw some concerning cracks and damaged stone. But from across the street, you could see the finials were pulling away from the tower itself. This is a major structural issue and we urged the owner to contact a structural engineer immediately for a review and a plan. In 2015 we received an invitation to bid the tower restoration and were awarded the job shortly thereafter. When the scaffold finally reached the top of the bell tower the true extent of the damage was revealed. Repairs included stone rebuilding and replacement, pointing, patching and rebuild of the finials and the addition of a network of stainless steel rods interconnected to reinforce the tower walls.
