Wyck Wall, Germantown, PA
A small farm is hidden in the Germantown section of Philadelphia that may surprise residents of the area who pass by it every day. Home to chickens, plants and trees and a museum. Wyck Historical House also has an education center for children to learn about nature and farming. Quick repairs were needed to the fence that runs along Germantown Avenue after a vehicle crashed through a large section of it. These repairs were left in place until such a time that funding could be secured for the full restoration. In 2015 we bid the project to restore the wall and fence entirely. Some 300 feet long it presented some unexpected challenges, any deviations in the fence would be immediately obvious to a casual observer. Special post bottoms were fabricated out of stainless steel and attached to a new footer making the wall and fence much stronger. The original wall stood about 1 foot over the sidewalk and was made of stone with slate spacers giving the wall a “dry-laid” appearance. We recreated the look and secured the stone with mortar at the rear of the wall.
